Closure of the IV International Arctic Forum

The Forum was held with the participation of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Rogozin, President of MOO Association of polar explorers, special representative of the President of the Russian Federation on international cooperation in the Arctic and the Antarctic A.N. Chilingarov.

In 2017, the event was organized by the State Commission for the development of the Arctic, with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation, regional authorities, commercial companies and research organizations.

More than 1,500 delegates from Russia and foreign countries took part in the main Arctic event of the year. About 100 Federal and regional media outlets worked at the forum to cover the work of the forum.

More than 40 events were held: more than 30 thematic sessions and discussions, 2 plenary sessions and an extended meeting of the State Commission on Arctic development.

The exhibition area demonstrated the achievements of socio-economic and technological development of the modern Arctic, exhibits of original culture and samples of unique achievements of the peoples of the Russian Arctic.

The business part of the forum ended with a plenary session «Man in the Arctic», devoted to the discussion of Russia’s priorities in the implementation of Arctic projects, with the participation of the President of the Russian Federation.

Within the two-day work of the forum, significant results of the Russian side in the development of the Arctic were demonstrated, key issues were considered:

development of the state program of the Russian Federation «Socio-economic development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation for the period 2020 and further»;

development of transport potential of the Arctic;

development of the nuclear icebreaker fleet;

implementation of the provisions of the International code for ships operating in polar waters;

development of fuel and energy complex, etc.
