"There will be a garden-city"

The end of spring is traditionally the high season for planting plants in the Kaliningrad region, both in parks and in farms. Due to the sanctions imposed by the European Union in 2022, this year all seedlings recovered to the Kaliningrad region from the main territory of Russia on ferries operating on the Ust-Luga – Baltiysk line.

Lots of seedlings of hawthorn, larch, pine, spruce, oak, linden, bird cherry were brought to the parks of the region, and strawberry seedlings were brought as part of the implementation of the berry cultivation project of the state program of the Kaliningrad region Agriculture and Fisheries. In addition, tunnel greenhouses were delivered on ferries, designed for growing vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, eggplants) and are extremely necessary for planting this year at the optimal time.

Delivery of such cargo by land route in 2023 has become impossible, since these products are sanctioned and are not included in the quota allocated by limitrophs. And alternative sea routes would lead to a multiple increase in transportation costs and, as a result, an increase in the cost of grown vegetables and fruits.
In addition, for seedlings, steam is the only way of transportation, since seedlings need to maintain a temperature regime and delivery at technologically optimal time for planting.

As always, the operational interaction of the Ministries of Infrastructure Development and Agriculture of the Kaliningrad region, Oboronlogistics and its linear agents in the ports of Ust-Luga and Baltiysk contributed to ensuring the food security of the region, the completeness of the economic and social life of the enclave, and the active development of agriculture in the region.
