The cargo ship Pizhma, which is part of LLC Oboronlogistics fleet, passed an annual inspection and received the necessary classification and registration documents.
The survey is mandatory for all types of floating structures and is carried out once a year to confirm the class of the vessel and the serviceable condition of all its parts.
In February of this year, scheduled repairs of the main engines, the propeller-steering complex, maintenance of cargo cranes were carried out at the Pizhma, metal structures were replaced, the hull was painted, a new ballast water treatment system was installed.
In April 2023, in accordance with the requirements of international standards for the transportation of nuclear materials, radioactive substances and radioactive waste, additional equipment was purchased on the ship.
On July 28, 2023, the Federal Service for Supervision of Transport issued a license allowing the transportation of all types of dangerous goods, including radioactive (Class 7), on the Pizhma.
The design of the dry cargo ship Pizhma is designed for the transportation of goods of all hazard classes. The ship has a deck for containers and general cargo, two holds, one of which is equipped for the transportation of nuclear fuel waste. Two ship cranes (with a lifting capacity of 35 tons each) make it possible to carry out loading and unloading operations both in the port and on an unequipped shore or an open roadstead. At maximum load, the vessel carries up to 3,400 tons of cargo and develops a speed of up to 10 knots.
Currently, Oboronlogistics is working to obtain a license for the right to handle radioactive materials during their transportation to the Pizhma of the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision. After that, the vessel will be able to start transporting cargo of hazard class 7.
