The universal cargo ship Oboronlogistics Sparta II, involved in the container line St. Petersburg – Kaliningrad, will "rest" for a couple of weeks at the Ship Repair Plant in St. Petersburg, where scheduled repairs will take place in the volume of an interim survey under the supervision of specialists of the FAA Russian Classification Society.
During the repair, the following will be performed:
maintenance of the main and auxiliary mechanisms;
maintenance and repair of cargo cranes;
diagnostics of the screw-steering complex.
In addition, the ship's satellite communications will be upgraded and a new complex working with the Russian satellite group will be installed. As soon as all the work is completed, the vessel will return to the line again.
The ship Sparta II has been operating between St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad for a year, since the end of October 2022, when it was relocated shortly after the ship Sparta from Novorossiysk to provide supplies to the Kaliningrad region in the conditions of a sanctions blockade by limitrophs. During this time, Sparta II transported more than 150,000 tons of cargo to Kaliningrad and back, including 1,300 pieces of equipment, about 7,000 containers and 7,000 tons of general cargo.
The universal cargo ship Sparta II of the RO-RO/LO-LO class, thanks to its design, can carry any type of cargo for various purposes. The vessel has a cargo hold and decks to accommodate containers and rolling equipment. The presence of ship cranes with a lifting capacity of 60 tons each and a stern cargo ramp allows cargo handling in a vertical and horizontal way. The length of the vessel is 121.7 m, width – 18.7 m. At maximum load, the Sparta II has the following characteristics: deadweight – 8000 tons, draft – 7 m, speed – 11 knots.
The operation and organization of the loading of the vessel is carried out by specialists of Oboronlogistics. There is a steady increase in the volume of cargo transportation on the line, the temporary absence of the ship Sparta II will not lead to its significant decrease: the second bulk carrier Oboronlogistics Sparta continues to operate on the line as usual.
