Cars from Kaliningrad

Ferries operating on the Ust-Luga–Baltiysk line have previously transported shipments of new cars from the Kaliningrad Region to the main territory of the Russian Federation by rolling method. But the main flow of automobile enterprises' products went by rail through the territory of limitrof.

Since September 2023, after the introduction of new restrictive measures by countries unfriendly to the Russian Federation, one of the leading enterprises for the production and assembly of cars in the Kaliningrad region has had difficulties shipping finished products by rail that do not fall under quotas.

Currently, due to the inability to continue the shipment process in the same mode, trains with finished products are redirected to ferries. In November 2023, on the basis of an appeal from the Government of the Kaliningrad region, about 150 wagons with new cars have already been transported by ferries.

Oboronlogistics specialists and its line agents in the ports of Ust-Luga and Baltiysk are making every effort to ensure timely delivery of goods both to and from the Kaliningrad region.
Currently, there are four railway ferries operating on the Ust-Luga – Baltiysk ferry line. Thanks to the special design, they can carry from 80 to 100 railway wagons. Moreover, these are not only covered wagons, gondola cars and platforms, but also special rolling stock, including two-tier wagons.
