Ambal winter holidays

In accordance with the requirements of the current legislation of the Russian Federation, in order to maintain the technical suitability of the vessel, prepare it for the next inspection and presentation to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping on December 29, 2023, the departure of the Ambal ferry from the Ust-Luga – Baltiysk line for scheduled repairs at the Gunboat Shipyard is planned.

The date of the vessel's return to the line will be determined based on the results of defects in all components and mechanisms of the vessel, but no later than March 2024.

Initially, the renovation was planned for the second half of the summer of 2023, but then postponed to January 2024, since traditionally during the winter holidays there is a comparative lull and a decrease in business activity.

Due to the sanctions policy of states unfriendly to the Russian Federation, Oboronlogistics will not be able to purchase foreign-made spare parts, and all parts necessary for replacement will be specially manufactured at Russian enterprises.

Oboronlogistics informed the Ministry of Transport of Russia, the Government of the Kaliningrad Region, all its customers, partners and colleagues about plans to withdraw the Ambal railway ferry from the Ust-Luga – Baltiysk line for routine maintenance.

Given the strategic importance of the ferry line and its importance in the life support of the Kaliningrad region, Oboronlogistics will make every effort to ensure that repairs are not delayed, the ship returns to service in good condition as soon as possible, and the volume of cargo traffic does not significantly decrease.

The Ambal ferry, built in 1990, has a special design for transporting railway wagons, tank cars and platforms, as well as rolling equipment and project cargo. Trains of up to 120 wagons are placed on three cargo decks, each of which is equipped with five tracks. Ambal makes from 6 round trips per month, the average weight of the cargo lot is 8000 tons. The last time the ship was under scheduled repair was in May 2021.
