Pigs and calves

Being in a special geographical position, in the context of sanctions and a transit embargo, agricultural producers of the Kaliningrad region were able not only to almost completely provide the region with food, but also to become a leader in the collection of grain, vegetables, production of meat, milk and eggs. Agricultural products of Kaliningrad are supplied to other regions of Russia and imported to friendly countries.

Reliable partners of the Kaliningrad region are ferry owners, including Oboronlogistics and its liner agents in the ports of Ust-Luga and Baltiysk. Ferries deliver agricultural machinery, fertilizers, fuel, packaging, seedlings and building materials to Kaliningrad. Finished products produced in the region go back to the main territory of Russia.

The transportation of animals requires special care. So, this winter, in order to implement the plan for import substitution and increase the number of purebred lines from the Kaliningrad region, pedigree pigs are exported to other regions of Russia on ferries. Their delivery by land route is impossible, since transit through the territories of limitrophes is allowed only in part of cattle, and the transportation of pigs is not provided. Pigs travel in special pig trucks with an escort, as they need to be fed and watered three times a day during transportation.

Enterprises of the Kaliningrad region actively export animals for breeding to other countries, including heifers - young breeding cows of reproductive age. Their delivery through the territory of neighbor is also prohibited due to the fact that cows go to third countries. The only way is by ferry.

Three railway ferries are currently operating on the Ust-Luga-Baltiysk ferry line: Baltiysk, Marshal Rokossovsky and General Chernyakhovsky. The Ambal ferry is undergoing scheduled repairs. Oboronlogistics acts as a single operator of the line, ensuring the loading of ferries with railway rolling stock, trailers, trailers and other rolling equipment.

Ferries have a special design to accommodate vehicles on cargo decks equipped with railway tracks. The approximate travel time of ferries on the Ust-Luga – Baltiysk line is 40 hours. Each ferry on the line makes about 5-6 round trips per month.
