Pulley on the ferry

Railway ferries operating on the Ust-Luga – Baltiysk line carry not only rolling stock and rolling equipment, but also oversized cargo, which is ready-made assembled structures designed for such important infrastructure facilities as the construction of overpasses, bridges, overpasses and bypasses.

The technological integrity of the finished structures requires careful transportation and makes it extremely undesirable to carry out any additional cargo operations. Therefore, the products are transported on ferries in road trains or on platforms.

Currently, there is an increase in the volume of construction in the Kaliningrad region, and transportation is carried out on a regular basis in accordance with a strict delivery schedule. One of such important projects for the region is the construction of backups of the famous vertical drawbridge over the Pregolya River.

 The double-deck railway-road bridge of Kaliningrad is a unique engineering structure. The bridge has the status of a cultural heritage site of municipal significance, but it has a low capacity for the life of a modern city. Currently, there is an active construction of two separate overpasses: a railway and a road, designed to significantly improve the transport infrastructure of the entire region and become new architectural dominants of the city.

In the autumn of 2023, ferries operating on the Ust-Luga – Baltiysk line began transporting pulleys for the lifting mechanisms of the new railway bridge. The pulley is a huge steel wheel weighing 29.5 tons and with a diameter of more than 4 m, over which ropes are then thrown to raise the central span. These oversized products are transported already assembled, fixed in special frames at an angle on low-bed trawls.
