Repair of Ambal continues

Scheduled repairs of the Ambal railway ferry owned by Oboronlogistics continue, and its completion is expected on time. Approximately on March 31, 2024, the vessel will enter the Ust-Luga – Baltiysk line.

Ambal docked on December 29, 2023. First of all, all components and mechanisms of the vessel were defected, and the scope of work was determined. Currently, work in the dock is being completed, the painting of the hull and the repair of the rudder propeller complex are being completed.

In the period from March 24 to March 30, 2024, after leaving the shipyard, the ferry will make a passage from St. Petersburg to Ust-Luga, during which sea and mooring tests will be carried out as part of the next survey and presentation to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

Ambal was built in Germany in 1990. The next repair was scheduled for August 2023, but then postponed to December 2023, as traditionally during the winter holidays there is a relative calm and a decrease in business activity.

Ambal has a special design for the transportation of railway cars, tanks and platforms, as well as rolling equipment and project cargo. Trains of up to 120 wagons are accommodated on three cargo decks, each of which is equipped with five tracks. Ambal makes 5-6 round trips per month, the average weight of a cargo lot is 8 thousand tons.

Taking into account the strategic importance of the ferry line and its importance in the life support of the Kaliningrad region, Oboronlogistics is making every effort to ensure that the repair of the Ambal is not delayed and the ferry returns to the line as soon as possible.
