The Dark, Blue Sea

World Maritime Day, which is celebrated on the last Thursday of September, was established by the 10th session of the Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 1978 in order to attract public attention to the ecology and problems of the sea, the safety of maritime transportation, and the conservation of biological resources.

The shores of Russia are washed by thirteen different seas, warm and cold: the Azov, Baltic, White, Barents, Bering, East Siberian, Kara, Caspian, Laptev, Okhotsk, Black, Chukchi and Japanese seas.

For many, the "sea" is associated with a pleasant holiday, sunbathing, bright summer sun, people dream of living at the sea, watching sunsets. And for 40 million people in the world, the sea is a job. Today, more than 80% of the total volume of world commodity trade is carried out by sea. By 2050, the demand for freight transportation will triple.

Seas and oceans occupy 70% of the entire surface of the planet, they contain 97% of water reserves. It is an important part of the biosphere, the main source of food and oxygen. Therefore, energy efficiency, the introduction of new technologies and innovations, ensuring maritime safety and competent management of shipping are on the agenda of every modern shipping company today.
