Ambal showed its capabilities

As part of his visit to the Kaliningrad Region, Advisor to the President of Russia, Deputy Chairman of the Maritime Board under the Government of the Russian Federation I.E. Levitin visited the Railway Ferry Complex in Baltiysk on November 26, 2024 and studied the process of unloading and loading onto the Ambal ferry.

The Ambal ferry is designed to transport both railway cars and rolling equipment. Vehicles of up to 150 units are accommodated on three cargo decks, each equipped with five railway tracks. Ambal makes up to 6 round trips per month, the average weight of the cargo batch is 8 thousand tons.

The railway ferry in Baltiysk is the only terminal for receiving railway ferries between the Kaliningrad and Leningrad regions. Its importance increased after the limitrophes imposed restrictions on the transit of goods through their territories in 2022. Currently, the Ministry of Transport of Russia is considering the possibility of reconstructing the railway complex in Baltiysk in order to increase its capacity.

Now there are 5 ferries operating on the Ust-Luga - Baltiysk railway-ferry line: Ambal, Antey, Baltiysk, General Chernyakhovsky and Marshal Rokossovsky. Oboronlogistics is the owner of the Ambal ferry and acts as a cargo agent for all ferries, distributing cargo to ships in a "one-stop-shop" mode. In 2024, Oboronlogistics ensured the delivery of 2 million tons of cargo between the Kaliningrad region and the main territory of the Russian Federation.

The Maritime Board of the Russian Federation was established in August 2024 in order to implement the national maritime policy of the Russian Federation, protect the national interests of our country and strengthen its defense capability in the World Ocean. The tasks and functions of the Board also include the development of the maritime potential of the Russian Federation, including the shipbuilding complex, the renewal of its scientific and technical and production and technological base.
