Ursa Mayor in the project

Oboronlogistics has extensive experience in performing sea project transportation. This type of delivery is optimal for the transportation of heavy machinery and equipment (electrical transformers, cranes, pipes, wind turbines, etc.).

Today, when Russia is actively implementing the state strategy for the construction of infrastructure facilities in the Arctic and abroad, Oboronlogistics specialists are ready to offer their potential customers unique solutions for the integrated transportation of heavy and oversized cargo.

For successful operation in the project sea transportation market, not only large-tonnage vessels are required, but also those with reliable, powerful and own crane equipment that can be used in the course of complex loading and unloading operations, including on an unequipped shore in the absence of port infrastructure.

The optimal vessel for marine project transportation is the flagship of the Oboronlogistics fleet Ursa Mayor (translated from Latin as "Big Dipper"), on which preventive repairs of crane equipment were carried out in November 2024 before the vessel embarks on a new long voyage with a heavy cargo to the Far East.

In the context of sanctions restrictions, the maintenance and repair of cranes manufactured by Liebherr is becoming a major challenge. As part of the import substitution program, Oboronlogistics specialists, together with Russian manufacturers and foundry specialists, created technical conditions for the manufacture of analog spare parts for Ursa Major ship cranes, which made it possible to continue their operation and obtain all the necessary permits from the supervisory authorities.

M/v "Ursa Mayor" is a universal dry cargo vessel of RO-RO/LO-LO class (horizontal and vertical loading), designed for transportation of general and project cargo, as well as containers and rolling equipment.

The vessel is equipped with two powerful cranes with a lifting capacity of 350 tons each, which positions the bulk carrier as Heavy Lift Cargo Vessel. The length of the vessel is 142 m, width is 23 m, draft is 7 m, deadweight is about 10,000 tons, speed is 14 knots.

Previously, Ursa Major was involved in the St. Petersburg-Kaliningrad container line of Oboronlogistics, as well as on project voyages to Asia, the Middle East and the Northern Sea Route. In the summer of 2024, the vessel underwent scheduled maintenance at the dock.
