Operating on the Ust-Luga – Baltiysk railway-ferry line, the Ambal ferry began transporting red deer from a nursery in the Kaliningrad region to the main territory of the Russian Federation. About 200 have already been transported, in total it is planned to transport up to 500 heads.
Young red deer are transported for further cultivation and breeding in reserves and parks of Central Russia. Today, the transportation of Russian animals through the territory of the EU is prohibited. Due to physiological characteristics, the transportation of deer can only be carried out from the end of November to February and requires a certain efficiency.
Young deer do not tolerate a long trip well, they need good ventilation, free access to watering and feeding, and accompanying persons. Delivery of such "timid " cargo cannot be carried out by any other means of transport, except in a special truck with a trailer on the Ambal ferry, which is structurally suitable for this.
Ambal transports both railway cars and rolling equipment. Vehicles of up to 150 units are accommodated on three enclosed cargo decks. The approximate travel time of the ferry between Baltiysk and Ust-Luga is 38 hours. Ambal makes up to 6 round trips per month, the average weight of the cargo batch is 8 thousand tons.
Previously, the Ambal ferry had already transported farm and circus animals, including lions, bears, elephants and camels. All of them were delivered on time and without complaints from the customer.
