The Day of the Capture of Koenigsberg

The Kaliningrad region celebrates an important date: on April 9, 1945, exactly 80 years ago, Soviet troops raised the flag over Koenigsberg, a fortress that Nazi Germany considered impregnable.

The bastions fell before the courage and bravery of Soviet soldiers, of whom 760 thousand were awarded the medal "For the capture of Koenigsberg", 216 were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. The defensive junction of the Nazis in the Baltic Sea was broken, and this decisively influenced the further course of the Great Patriotic War. Moscow saluted the valor and skill of the heroes of the assault on Koenigsberg. There were 30 days left before the victory, the road to Berlin was open, from this date the path of formation and development of a strategically important region of the country began.

 Currently, in connection with the SMO carried out by the Russian Federation, limitrophes surrounding the Kaliningrad region have introduced transit restrictions. Delivery of goods to the Russian enclave is significantly difficult.
