Full steam ahead

As part of the events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the ferry Marshal Rokossovsky, operating on the Ust-Luga - Baltiysk line, delivered a steam locomotive of the L-2344 series to the Kaliningrad region.

Every year on the eve of Victory Day, Russian Railways launches historical steam-powered trains throughout the country. The routes of retro trains are changing, more and more new stations are being added. The retro train is traditionally delivered to the Kaliningrad region by ferry.

All steam locomotives participating in the action are active exhibits from museums of railway equipment and direct participants in the events of the war years. They carried out important tasks for the delivery of trains, military equipment, were involved in the transportation of food and the wounded.

The legendary L-2344, created at the end of the Great Patriotic War, received the official name "Pobeda" and became the most mass-produced and economical Soviet steam locomotive. It was widely used in the post-war years in the course of restoration work and in the construction of new industrial facilities in different regions of the country.

Today, steam locomotives of the L-2344 series are mainly used on excursion and tourist routes.
