Day of the Seafarer

June 25 is Seafarer's Day, a professional holiday established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) at the UN, brings together everyone who is directly related to work at sea.

Since ancient times, seafarers have played a key role in the development of the world economy, and today more than 80% of international trade is carried out by sea. One and a half million people are employed in the shipping sector, and their work is associated with certain challenges and risks. IMO's tasks include the organization of maritime safety and environmental protection, as well as the resolution of legal issues related to international shipping.
