Oboronlogistics ensures the stable operation of the ferry line in difficult ice conditions in the Baltic Sea.

Since the end of January 2026, the ice situation in the Baltic Sea, in the area of the ports of St. Petersburg, Ust-Luga, Kaliningrad and Baltiysk, has remained difficult. Abnormal frosts have led to intensive ice formation - the thickness of the ice in some places reaches 30 cm.

Despite the difficult natural conditions, Oboronlogistics vessels continue to operate stably on the lines connecting the Kaliningrad Region with the main territory of Russia.
The railway ferry Ambal, used on the route, has an increased ice class and a powerful power plant, which allows it to sail independently in such ice conditions without the need for icebreaker escort.

When mooring the ferry Ambal, special attention is paid to docking with the lifting and transition bridge: the track on the deck of the vessel must strictly coincide with the track on the shore - this is the main condition for the safety of loading and unloading wagons. In difficult ice conditions, such an operation requires special accuracy, but thanks to the professionalism of the captains, the well-coordinated work of the crew and the support of tugboats, the docking is carried out clearly and in accordance with the schedule.

Oboronlogistics is a key operator of ferry transportation on the route between the Kaliningrad Region and the North-West of Russia. In 2025, the company transported more than 2 million tons of cargo, ensuring uninterrupted supply to the region.
